Two Months

Otto Swing 1

Otto turned two months old yesterday. We don't have official measurements but word on the street is that he's impressively large. And I realized I haven't given any updates since he was three weeks old and I was at the height of delerium! Things have gotten much easier, thank goodness.

• Please don't hate us, but he is sleeping through the night. What a fella. My boobs wake me up before he does. If you want consolation, know that he naps very little during the day and hates any kind of carrier other than human arms, oh my aching back.

• Baby clothes vary greatly in what "0-3 months" and "3-6 months" means, but he's already out of most of those and into six-month sizes. We have two crates full of clothes that he never got to wear or wore, like, once.

Nekkid Smile

• We've been having regular coo conversations, which is just about the greatest thing ever. He's very smiley and has a kind of proto-laugh working. He has just begun doing raspberries, with which he cracks himself up.

• His limb control is coming along: he can reliably get his fist up to his mouth and go to town sucking on it. I guess this means his cute "ski-jump arms" are a thing of the past.

• He loves the changing table, loves every bit of costume changing (who knew putting arms through armholes could inspire such glee), and LOVES baths. We need to get to a swimming pool to see how that goes.

• I am going back to work starting this Thursday. The daytime childcare is going to be split up between Bryan (whose boss is letting him telecommute part time -- hooray!) and my goddess mom. It is still going to be so, so hard and I am going to stop thinking about it right now.

Symmetrical Sleep

• On the baby product front: I got a sample pack of g-diapers. They are a little hard to get the hang of and too expensive for us to use exclusively, but the covers are cute and flushing the insert away is oddly fun and satisfying. There is a lot of info in the g-diapers Yahoo group about using cloth inserts with the g-covers.

I've been a long time reader/lurker. That is one handsome fellow you got there! My ovaries are just screaming, he's so cute. My baby-making days are behind me so I just turn to mush at the sight of a newbie. Enjoy!

what an adorable little guy you have!

g diapers are great -- and yes, expensive! we're using them for travel, but in between have had great success using the covers with our cloth diapers.

wishing you the all best with the transition back to work - it's such a tough one to make, but it sounds like your little one will be well tended and completely loved up while you're away.

enjoy the night sleep while it lasts! :) not to be a downer but it's possible that his sleep patterns will change at 3 months as a baby's brain gets new wiring then that mucks with sleep. but you might be spared, you never know!

the ski jump arms are delightful. so cute.

I can't believe Otto is 2 months already!! He is such a cutie! And don't worry, Bella started sleeping through the night at about 8 weeks and continued to do so, turning 3 months didn't make any difference at all. But I did get lots of people laughing and saying that it wouldn't last long! They were wrong. Phew.
And ski jump arms are the best!

Oh my gosh, my son just turned 2 months old today, and he's just fitting into 0-3 months stuff! I am oh so jealous of your handsome little man sleeping through the night. One day! I love his chubby little cheeks..so so cute!

He is so, so cute. That smile! Eeeeeee!!!

I'm not even going to dare to hope for a sleeping 2-month old. You are so lucky.

if he is sleeping through the night, i hope you're using some sort of contraception! unless, that is, you want some irish twins!!! (

He is plump and beautiful! My mom had told me that the nice thing about larger babies is that they tend to sleep through the night early on. All I can say is thank God mine fit into that category, too! He started getting better with the naps later, so there's still hope. :)

That is one cutie-pie. My son was really big as a baby too, always double the clothing size for his age until at least 3. Even now at 5, people think he is seven!

You'll find your niche with the working situation, but the first few days are the hardest.

What a cutie! I can imagine it will be hard to leave him but nice to know that family will be around him.

My one nephew was always double the clothing size too, but eventually he slowed down a bit and is now just tall and skinny.

ski jump arms are the cutest!

i forgot to put your point number one on my list! i can totally relate to the fact that he doesn't nap much during the day, and wants to be held most of the time... and the back pain! but i wouldn't want to trade those with "sleeping through the night" thing :)

What a cutie! I love that top pic. He looks like he's punching in the air like a little champ :)

Oh my goodness! He's an absolute doll!

*Thank God for my husband's vasectomy-I'm having serious baby fever since my last one just went off to Kindergarten this week!*

And all 3 of mine were just like yours...sleeping all night by 2 months, but up all day except for a little 45 minute nap, and wouldn't settle for anything less than my arms! Got some good biceps out of it though...of course, they're all gone by now...

Well done getting him to sleep through the night - you have to get into a routine and increase the feeds at night - he is absolutely gorgeous - well done Mum! I had better go! I am getting broody! take care - happy xx

Otto is a complete sweetie too! And what a cool name! We were comletely stuck on boy names - but maybe Otto will go on the 'next time' list. Otto & Celeste make a cute name combo I think. Katy xx
