One Week Home

Wow, what an intense week -- it's been a roller coaster, and that's with an easy, healthy baby. My hat is off to parents who have any more of a complicated newborn situation! (Minor) breastfeeding worries mixed with exhaustion can send me on hours-long crying jags. This Father's Day was one extra-emotional day: the new non-schedule was catching up to me, and my body was still feeling really torn up and deflated. Bryan's family visited, including his sister Amy and her boyfriend Luis in from San Francisco. Luis happens to be an amazing photographer. He whipped out his camera and casually took these pictures. They somehow capture all the goodness of the week and help me forget all the crud. Thanks Luis!

Too sweet! Great pics and such a nice visit to capture. Believe me, things do get better. There will come a time when you won't remember any of this and you will only remember the lovely times. Congrats on the new little one.

Congratulations on a beautiful baby and a healthy delivery! I tell new moms that an unwritten rule among mothers is you never tell a pregnant woman how hard the first few weeks will be. You don't want to scare her to death. It gets easier, and you'll miss these days when he's older. I have two boys, 6 and 11, and it's hard to imagine they were ever so little! They are an absolute joy.

Oh my goodness, these are absolutely beautiful photos! Definitely ones you'll cherish in the years to come. Maybe even worth the chaos of having visitors during the early weeks, hopefully they cooked and cleaned the house in addition to clicking the shutter :)
I'll be a busy bee and encourage a visit to a lactation consultant if you have any ongoing issues with nursing or feel like it isn't working. I actually needed such a nudge with #2 which surprised the heck out of me.
Continue to enjoy the magic, seeing all these new babies brings back a flood of wonderful memories. xoxo kathy

Oh, Diorama-mama, I'm such a lurker, but I had to comment. You and your son look so beautiful, and I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world.

Congrats! he is super sweet and love the name! its so intense but so worth it, isn't it? you have 40 times more horomones surging through your body then at a normal menstrual time, so cry away!!!
the fabric on your onesie's, the gnome set...do you know where you bought the wood grain fabric? thanks!

congratulations! what a lovely photo.
it can be quite draining in the beginning - you have your body to heal, your hormones, your newborn to care for, lack of sleep and tons of people visiting., learning to bf. each day brings you closer to the understanding you two will share with one another. once you work out a system, get to know each other and a few months pass life will become much easier. just keep taking photos because they change every day.

Congrats! He looks lovely and the photos are exquisite. Good luck in the coming weeks. It does get easier (breastfeeding and all), but the first couple of weeks are icky.

Those photos just made me want to have another baby :) That newborn scrunchiness is so sweet.
Take care of yourself and try to get out of the house (with or without Otto) when you can. That helped me a lot early on.

Congratulations! Beautiful photos and such a cool name for you little fella!
Breastfeeding for me was the toughest part of the whole birth/new mum thing. It does get better I promise! After a very difficult start i ended up bf for a year - hope it works out for you.

Absolutely gorgeous photo, as you noted. Congratulations again. We had home visits from a stellar lactation consultant in N. Austin and it helped tons and tons. Hang in there! You'll be whipping up baby quilts soon.

One day at a time!
He's gorgeous, and I love the name. And things will get easier soon, once those hormones are washed away.

He is so beautiful! Congratulations to you and your sweet family. Ditto to what everyone else says--it does get easier! Especially the breastfeeding, if you can get through those difficult first weeks, it is a joy, and so easy.
