Count Your Blessings
For the first time in either of our lives, we OWE taxes this year. $812 -- oof! One or both of us messed up on withholding this year. I'm so stupid with this stuff. Fortunately next year we'll have a big fat baby boy deduction, right? (And, unfortunately, far less income, in all likelihood.) In order to not cry I took to admiring and ironing and scanning the best pieces from a recent eBay purchase of little tiny scraps. Which of course I shouldn't have bought, now that we owe money. But anyway. eBay is NOT what it used to be with the vintage fabric lots -- have you noticed?, so I was pretty fortunate with this one.

The winner! The circles remind me of marbles, and the color combo is genius.

The little heads and the birds take this design from masculine/kitschy to cute and feminine. And another genius colorway.

Squiggles!

This is from the tiniest scrap - a circle only a few inches big, meant to be a yo-yo

Pattern designers these days make too liberal use of Illustrator -- I say down with clean lines and let's use some more pencils and paintbrushes.

yikes! Sorry about the tax bill. The same thing happened to me several years ago and I had to pay $1500!!

Funny, that's a good thought about the use of more paintbrushes. Guess I've never thought about Illustrator being used too much. But now that you mentioned it, I rarely see prints like the last one you mentioned.

I couldn't agree more on the fabric design. I'm working on a new quilt. I keep pulling out vintage pieces to mix in with the new fabrics, wishing I could buy new ones as simple and perfect in design and color.

Wow - the *same* thing happened to us this year. My fault - unfortunately. Thankfully hubby did the taxes early so we have some time to save up the $783 we owe! I went up to my office manager first thing the next day and changed my W4 and added on an additional $20 per paycheck. It is the suck. On a good note, your fabrics are fabulous! I went to an estate sale last weekend and got a bunch of vintage fabric myself, and I know what you mean about the edges being a little more free-form. I rather like it!

I just had to comment, after reading your cute blog, that we also owe taxes for the first time this year. Except that we owe $25,000!!! So, when you are paying, just remember, it could be worse!! LOL!!
