Baby Belly

Understand, I have one full-length mirror in my house, and it is hung behind a door that doesn't get much use, for better or worse. So, this is the perspective on my belly that I go by.

belly from above

I don't know how this picture looks to you, body image is such a weird thing, but I've been pleasantly shocked at how big I'm NOT, at six months (26 weeks -- this was taken last weekend). Not that I expected it to last, but maybe some little part of me was getting cocky. Then, Bryan takes this picture:

26 weeks

Oh! OK then. I really am pregnant. Welcome to the third trimester! I am starting to get that lead-weight-in-my-belly feeling, having to prep for bending over, and strangers are asking my due date rather than staring and going through that internal conflict (she could just have a massive beer belly, I won't say anything, but I will keep staring). No groping stranger hands yet, though.

Hooray! It's getting to be just the right size to hold a plate of tacos or a bowl or ice cream when you're sitting down! (At least that's what I used mine for;-)

Aaahhh...now the stomach has a life of its own, arriving first at all destinations (including items stacked neatly on belly-level shelves at the store). You look great! Enjoy every moment.

Yay for pregnant bellies! Wait till a month AFTER you've had the baby and strangers are still staring at you wondering if it's an enormous beer belly or if you're about to pop out triplets... or even ask when you're due... that does A LOT for your ego.

I think you look lovely.....a nice preggy roundness. I feel almost jealous as I loved being pregnant....but them comes the stretchy fanster stuff and it's not so nice. BUT then you get a little pink bundle so it's totally worth it.

I can't believe it's your third trimester already! You don't look huge at all. You look fantastic. It can get A LOT bigger, you know.

I loved being pregnant!!! The one thing that amazed me --- was just when I thought there was no way I could possibly get any bigger...I did. Ahh, the joys of the last month....!!!

i always wondered about the groping strangers hands things....is that like totally rude or appreciated by mommies to be? i've never been pregnant, but curious about that. i dont think that i would want people touching me right now...but wonder if its different when they're actually touching the symbol of the baby....just curious.

I think you look great and actually kind of small for 6 months. I hated the staring and the groping stranger hands even more! Good luck at avoiding those two yucks and spending the next year with only kind and polite people...
