Moda Steps Up

Summer in the City - Urban Chicks - Moda
Kathy beat me to this, but I just have to second all the great new fabrics in the Hancock's of Paducah catalog. My catalog came with an order comprised mostly of those great measuring tape prints from Moda's American Jane Building Blocks line (.pdf link) ... too bad I didn't see the others in time. You can only justify so many shipping charges, you know?
Anyway with their new lines Summer in the City by Urban Chicks (.pdf) and Uptown (.pdf again) by Erin Michael, it looks like Moda is finally going after the younger market. I associate Moda mostly with Victorian/Shabby Chic/country kinds of stuff, though they have put out some of the best mid-1900s reproduction lines as well. I think the inspiration behind Uptown is genius! "Motifs include many elements Erin remembers from fashions of years ago (like Mom’s floral couch, Dotty’s Chippendale fretwork sofa, and Bob’s geo ombre shirt)." Witness:

The paint by numbers birds are my favorite. I could see all kinds of paint by numbers prints.
Both lines are sold out at HoP right now, but they're brand new and will certainly be at your favorite retailer pretty soon.

I had the same impression when their catalog landed in my mailbox. There are some really great prints coming out for spring.

Yowza those are cute! Love the birds, and the starburst circles, and heck, everything else, too!
Thanks for sharing!

Don't kick yourself too much about your order--the new Moda fabrics above aren't even in stock yet. I love Hancock's of Paducah but they tend to get people amped up before they even have many of the fabrics.

I am a big fan of the building blocks fabrics, i've already made tons of things with those fabrics. and i loooove those paint by number birds, i'm going to be hitting the quilt stores this weekend!

i saw those fabrics too and loved them. it is slightly problamatic for my wallet though that there are so many more good choices these days.

You are so right about Moda! I met with a Moda rep with scepticism a few months ago, but he ended up blowing my mind! I broke the bank, needless to say. They just started shipping Uptown--I am supposed to see mine on Tuesday. I'll also have rounds 2 and 3 of the Building Blocks series in a couple of weeks. I think Summer in the City starts shipping in March. Just as an interesting aside, Erin Michael (Uptown) also designed the super popular Funky Monkeys. I believe she is the daughter of the Moda CEO. Well, there you go. Sorry about the promotional comment, but I'm so excited about these fabrics, and it's nice to see that others are getting psyched about them. Take care!
