:: June 6, 2006 What the Hell, UO?
Urban Outfitters has done it yet again ... first they ripped off Johnny Cupcakes and Crown Farmer, in arguably subtle ways, now they've blatantly ripped off Dan Goodsell's fantabulous book Krazy Kids Food, in the form of a shower curtain. They altered some of the type but the graphics are lifted wholesale. Urban Outfitters is officially dead to me and needs to be destroyed. I have never been a fan of their cheaply made, overpriced, self-consciously hipster clothes, though I have regularly bought sunglasses and tapestries (for fabric) there for a long time. No more. Ugh. Comments Another reason not to shop at UO and Anthropologie is that their owner is notorious for donating money to radical-conservative causes. I used to like to browse around those stores - never spending any money, but getting ideas for things to make for myself. Since I've learned how often they rip off independent artists, I don't even do that. I won't risk getting "inspiration" from something that might have been plagiarized in the first place. All the more reason to buy some fabric paint and trim, grap a blank tee or whatnot from American Apparel and rip-off UO designs (for an 1/8th of the price).
