Audiobooks
I posted a question today to Ask Metafilter seeking audiobook suggestions -- maybe you can help me out too.

I loved Middlesex, but I listened to it on the long drives to and from Marfa - no distractions except for a few bunnies crossing the road here and there.
Maybe the Chronic(WHAT)cles of Narnia? Michael York is the narrator.

Hello Netflix friend! I too loved all the David Sedaris books and actually just finished Dress Your Family in Cordouroy and Denim. I would suggest (if you don't find it too preachy) The Book of Virtues, One and Two. They contain a lot of great literature shorts which I really enjoyed. I would also suggest Best women's short stories. Appetite For Life (the biography of Julia Child). And I really enjoyed the Elizabeth Peters mystery series involving Amelia Peabody. Also, I saw Auntie Mame on your Netflix queue, it is one of my favorites of all times!

I liked "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Under the Tuscan Sun".

Hi Kim, I second (or is it third) the suggestions for the Amelia Peabody series. I'm only on the second book, having just recently discovered it, and I'm enjoying them immensely. For nonfiction, I really enjoyed "The Professor and the Madman", which is about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary. I'm also in the middle of "The Adventure of English", which is a "biography" of the English language. Fascinating stuff! Tell us more on your blog about what you like and don't like to listen to and read and perhaps I can give you some more suggestions.

Oops, I just realized I listed myself as anonymous on my previous post. I agree with Caren, "Professor and the Madman" was very interesting. Something happened halfway through the book that just shocked the pants off me!

um, I don't really know your reading tastes, but if you like Amy Sedaris (Strangers With Candy, sister to the less talented but more famous David, Exit 57, plays) she an Paul Dinello (Strangers with Candy, Exit 57) and Stephen Colbert (Colbert Report, Daily Show, Strangers with Candy, Exit 57) wrote Wigfield, which is a fairly funny book... it is all characters in a small town (based on a news piece from the Daily Show) but on the audiobook version, the three authors read it and perform all the characters making it a great audiobook to me...
I love it and would give you a copy if you can't find it anymore, the book came out maybe 3 years ago.

My husband is the one with the long commute he has an audible account but he is also on lime wire piratebay or usenet
the library system is also pretty nice for downloadable books
as an alternate suggestion don't forget about the world of podcasts. and public radio. being the wierd magnet I am I enjoy being able to listen to 4 hours of coast to coast during the day while the kids are napping.
Hope this helps ;)
