Button Questions
1. Anyone out there have a (pinback) button machine? I'm in the market and don't know what to look for. People on Craftster give very mixed reviews to badge-a-minit. I went ahead and bought a professional 1" machine from buybuttonparts.com via eBay. They seemed to have the best deal. Stay tuned for a button-filled future.
2. Say you get a mother lode of vintage (regular ol' non-pinback) buttons*. They're on their original cards. Is it the collector's way to keep them on the cards? Or cut them off for sorting fun?
*at the most wonderful antique mall that you never knew existed (see below)

I have a badge-a-minit, the small 1 1/4 inch one. It is reasonabley priced, but labor intensive. It is cheeper for me to have black and white 1 inch buttons made by a "button" company. but for handmade ones, it only works well with paper, nothing thick or photo paper. i have managed some felt and fabric, but with no clear disk on top. I found that the failure rate of the button pieces is pretty high, but that can be avoided by ordering replacement badges for a different company. the size works well for drawings and fabric becasue it isn't "that" small.
that said, i still enjoy mine, it is fun for small projects. but i really want a 1 inch heavy duty bench press.
wow that was a novel, if you have anymore questions, let me know...

no help on the buttons here, you might check out one good bumble bee, she sells cool vintage fabric covered buttons. glad you found some treasures at your "new" antique mall! if i have multiple sets of buttons on cards, i take off some and leave some on the cards for handy throw ins for swaps. just showed your quilt top to yet another person...
