First Samples
For those of you in Austin: there's a new sewing studio called First Samples just off South Congress (behind the building that houses Therapy, Goodie Two Shoes, etc.). It was closed yesterday when I stopped by but it looks beautiful. It's basically your dream sewing studio that you'd like to have at home, but since you can't, here it is for hourly or monthly rental. There will also be plenty of classes. I think I'll see if I can go to the weekly walk-in unstructured class to learn about sergers.

sergers are the shiznit. when i worked at the costume shop at ut, i would serge things just for the hell of it. wasted a lot of fabric that way.

Thanks to you all for the wonderful praise of my budding little business! It was so funny when I read this yesterday (thanks to the lead by http://www.theworkshopaustin.com) because I read it just after I cancelled the Weekly Walk In Classes. I decided to cut them for a while (maybe move it to a new time / day) because I am developing some fun day-long intesive classes for draping, patternmaking and design which will be on Saturdays (and maybe Sundays).
You all just made my day! And if things go my way, a First Samples may be coming to your town in the not too distant future.
Just FYI, if you ever do walk in, I'll definately give you some pointers on the serger (overlock machine). Maybe I'll even pull together a regular class about overlock machines and working with knits. That would be fun. I am planning on incorportating that information into the T-shirt deconstruction series too!
